As Good as Volume #2 and in some cases BETTER!, 23. Juni 2000
This volume has the biggest body count I've ever seen one man amass. The Saint of Killers gives a whole new meaning to "high body count." But beyond the incredible amount of blood in the main story, there's also the origin of how Cassidy became a vampire and how he came to be in America. (Not to mention we find out his hilarious first name!) And we finally learn the whole story behind "Genesis" So if all of this isn't a reason to buy this volume, I truly don't know what is!
The ultimate showdown (until book 4)., 2. Juni 1999
The third installment in the series, this issue surpasses "Until the end of The World" as that did for "Gone to Texas".
Bloody fantastic!, 10. März 1999
I started collecting comics like Spiderman and Batman at age twelve. It wasn't until I was seventeen and a book called Preacher did I realize how powerful they truly are. Preacher is a "godsend", a diamond in the ruff. It is a magnificent journey into the macabre, a brilliant work that rivals anything done by Miller, David or Smith. Many people are taken aback by the blasphamous images of God that Ennis portrays. I think he has hit the mark dead-on. I can turn on the television, watch the news, and see many more horrible things that make me cringe. Preacher is a fun romp through sick, twisted minds mixed with a good sense of honor and philosophy. I reccomend all of it. Track it down, get into it and make it a part of your life. You'll be glad for it. I promise.
Scary, exciitng, and wet-your-pants funny..., 3. Januar 1999
Since this story arc ended, PREACHER hasn't been, well, as good. It still eclipses most other comics today, but it's hard to imagine anything topping the first 24 issues. Most of the book is excellent, with funny moments like the story of Frankie the Eunuch and the "messiah", and scary scenes like the Angel in the basement (you'll have to read for a better explanation). The opening and closing chapters pale in comparison to the larger narrative, but serve to tell stories of "proud americans" just the same.
A really, really, REALLY great comic book--fast paced!!, 27. September 1998
Preacher- proud Americans is fast paced, violent, and very funny. It is the story of Jesse Custer, and is the 3rd volume of Preacher comic book collections. Jesse, a small-town preacher with the power to make people obey his word, must find God (who has been de-throned from Heaven) and, more specifically, save his vampire friend Cassidy from the clutches of his arch-nemesis. At the same time he must keep his girlfriend out of trouble (or so he thinks). This book is funny, fast paced, suspenseful, and very original.
