Das geballte Wissen eines erfahrenen Naturphotographen, 2. Juni 2002

Auch wenn der Untertitel den "Advanced Amateur and Professional" als Zielgruppe anspricht, kommt bei "Outdoor Photography" von Boyd Norton vor allem auch der ambitionierte Einsteiger auf seine Kosten. Die Basics der Photographie, also Licht, Brennweite und Belichtungszeit werden sehr anschaulich erklärt, natürlich vor allem mit Bezug zur Naturphotographie.Nebenbei gibt der Autor die kleinen Tricks und Kniffe des Profis zum Besten. Dabei geht es überhaupt nicht trocken zu, vielmehr ist das Buch in einem angenehm zu lesenden Plauderton geschrieben, ohne aber unexakt zu werden oder technische Hintergründe auszulassen. Man merkt, dass der Autor sehr viel Erfahrung im Weitergeben von Wissen durch zahlreiche von ihm geleitete Workshops sammeln konnte. In der Hinsicht ist vor allem das Kapitel "Travel Photography" hervorzuheben, das spannend und unterhaltsam Tipps zum Photographieren auf Reisen gibt.Die sehr schönen Beispielfotos demonstrieren eindrucksvoll die beschriebenen Konzepte, und machen vor allem Lust aufs Selbermachen. Einzig das Kapitel zur Unterwasserphotographie passte für mich persönlich nicht so richtig ins Konzept, das sollte besser in einem eigenem Buch behandelt werden.

Insgesamt aber ist das Buch ein preiswertes und sehr empfehlenswertes Werk für denjenigen, der sich der Naturphotographie nähern möchte.

The photos in this book are excellent, the book is chock full of useful information and advice for aspiring outdoor photographers, but the best part of the book is the writing. It's so easy to read, it's like the author is telling a story. Definitely a book worth having.

I've looked very hard for books that can help me be a more creative photographer, and almost all have fallen short of the mark. This is the ONE book that has helped me the most. Besides being a superb photographer, Norton is one helluva fine writer. In fact, one reviewer suggested Norton try his hand at writing fiction and I agree. Like a great novel, this book was engrossing from the start - hard to put down. He conveys useful information with a blend of humor and anecdotes that I've never found in other photography books. And in a down-to-earth way, the book is inspiring. It encouraged me to try new things and to look at photography in a more creative way. Thanks Boyd Norton. I hope you do more books like this.

       One Incredible Book, 10. April 2000

This is a "must have" for any serious photographer. The book is so good I keep going back and re-reading portions of it because it is so inspiring and informative. Boyd Norton is such a good writer that you feel as though he's right with you, talking to you personally. Thanks, Boyd Norton for one great book! And by the way, if you ever write any novels, I'll be first in line to buy them!

       Excellent book for applying techniques, 6. April 2000

A very useful and enjoyable book for photographers with some knowledge of photographic techniques. Once you have learned the basic technical aspects of photography, this book is good guide on how to actually apply those skills. The book displays many color photographs and explains how different elements affected the final product. In addition, the author is an amusing story teller.
