WHY??, 3. Oktober 2008
A different point of view, 26. März 2008
This story was written after one of the first school shootings in the USA. It is fictional, but with some reality in it. The author tried to show all the point of views. It's not only about the victims of the shooting, but also about the comitter who are also in another way victims. The story shows us that there are reasons why young people make such terrible things. It is the society who pushed both boys, Gary and Brendan, in a corner until they find no way out except taking revenge and showing people what they have done. The daily torture of being blamed, hurt and humiliated destroyed the boys until they wanted to die.All these facts are given by fictional interviews with the family, friends, teachers, class mates and enemies of the two boys and letters of their own. This shows that the author tried to show all the points which caused the shooting. It is an appeal to us to think about our responsibility and our guilt of such terrible things and to change our society that such things never happen again.
Give a Boy a Gun, 14. März 2008
The book "Give a Boy a Gun" is by Todd Strasser. It`s an documentation from the perspective of the kids and teachers, who witness the story. The book is about two boys, who want to run amok, because they are bullied by their classmates. In my opinion the book is good for reading in school, but I wouldn}t read it in my free time. The story isn}t very exiting and there are many new words, which you should look up in a dictionary. So if I where you, I wouldn}t read it vouluntary, because I think it}s boring. But if you want to learn many new words, it}s perfect.
good story but sluggish, 14. März 2008
the book give a boy a gun by todd strasser is a documentation of two guys who run amok in a high school. both guys get diss at their school by pupils and teachers. members of their family and acquaintances tell the story the book. everybody tells something about the two guys and what is happened. at the beginning and at the ending i think the book is very good and exciting. but in the main part, the middle of the book, it is very sluggish and i didn't really feel to read it. tzhe main story is interisting but it is hard to read it. as a recommandation i think if somebody wants to read a really good and exciting book, it is not the right one for that. because the middle part of the book is just too boring.
great book, 5. Mai 2005
The book shows juveniles how 'harmless' harassment can end. The reader notices more and more that the protagonists can't handle the problems with the students and the teachers anymore. First they just dream of leaving the school, later they collect ideas for a revenger and at the end they enter the school armed with automatics.
I can recommend this book especially for schools, because it's educational without being boring and it animated me to think about things I say to other people...
